5 CROSSFIT MYTHS DEBUNKED

img

If you’ve never tried Crossfit before, you may have wondered what it’s all about and whether it’s as bad or as good as people say it is. Before you decide CrossFit is too intense, or will make you manly or is dangerous, or whatever you’ve heard, we’re here to give you some hard facts!

1. MYTH – You’ll get hurt

FACT – With every kind of exercise or sport there’s always risk of injury. As long as you listen to your body, to your coach and warm up properly, then you shouldn’t get hurt. You actually might not know but Crossfit can actually help avoid injury through functional exercises, or exercises that mimic movements you do in everyday life/ situations. Carrying shopping bags? Picking up your children? Crossfit can help with you with that!

2. MYTH –  You have to be physically fit to do Crossfit

Many people believe that they have to be already physically fit before joining Crossfit but this isn’t true! Regardless of your age, fitness level or size, all abilities are welcome. The Programming of the workouts can be adapted to suit every member in each class.

3. MYTH – Women will get bulky

Crossfit makes girls fit, strong & healthy…not bulky. You may have seen Professional Crossfit athletes and Body builders & thought to yourself “What if I start getting bigger?”, but they follow gruelling diet plans & fitness regimes to look that way. Crossfit has many benefits for women, including a better figure, more self esteem & producing lots of endorphins (happy hormones).

4. MYTH – You have to enter competitions

Joining Crossfit doesn’t mean you have to enter or get involved in competitions. If the competitive side of Crossfit appeals to you and you want to compete against others, then go for it! If it doesn’t then don’t. It’s really that simple.

5. MYTH – It’s a cult!

Because of Crossfit’s huge community, people have been known to call it a ‘cult’. Members learn to work together, encourage each other and build friendships that go beyond the box. Crossfit isn’t a cult, it’s a community!

Everyone has something to say about Crossfit – whether it’s good or bad. There are MANY myths, misconceptions and misinformation around Crossfit but the best thing you can do is to come and try it out for yourself!
